Friends have blogged about Burger King commercials before, but I have to say the Whopper Jr. ad airing now (you know the one: “I thought Burger King was the home of the Whopper”) is particularly hilarious. Since the Office-parody commercials of a few months ago, Burger King has seriously geared up the quality of their advertising. No more crowing about being “flame-broiled,” or cheesy “have it your way” songs — they’ve made strong inroads in the near-absurdist school of television advertising (other examples of varying quality include the VW “My Fast” campaign, the Travelocity gnome, and those danged Eastern Motors ads featuring various Redskins). Sure, their new ad agency has served up some stinkers, like the 30’s musical-esque Whopper ad from the Superbowl, but parodying Slipknot to sell those horrible Chicken Fries? Absolute genius.  And though the King head creeped me out at first, you have to admit Darius Rucker hasn’t been seen or heard from since.  That alone is testament to the quality of the ads and how they’ve improved  all of our lives.
